Your first injection of the
Hep-B Vaccine series must have been given before your registration date
and included in your immunization records. Hep-B must be completed
or a Titer test must show you are positive for Hep-B antibodies prior to
the start of your clinical time
A photocopy of recent TB test
results (within 3 months of class start date)
A photocopy of your H1N1 and
Seasonal Flu Vaccines (optional, but if you opt out, you will be required
to wear a N95 mask during your ER clinical time)
An original State
of Texas Background Check with FINGERPRINTS: Can be obtained at the Texas
Department of Public Safety, 108 Denson Dr. (Near Highland Mall off of
Airport Blvd) Ph: 512-424-2000. Cost $24.95
Either payment in full for
the course or your first of 3 payments, due at registration. (10% payment plan fee applies and is

What if I have a criminal record? TDSHS
website states:
A person shall be disqualifiedfrom eligibility to
acquire an EMS certification if the applicant is convicted of or placed on
deferred adjudication community supervision or deferred disposition for an
offense listed in Code of Criminal Procedure, Article 42.12, Sections
3g(a)(1)(A) through (H) as follows:
(1) murder; (2) capital murder; (3) indecency
with a child; (4) aggravated kidnapping; (5) aggravated sexual
assault; (6) aggravated robbery; (7) substance abuse offenses (if
conducted in a manner below), as described in Health and Safety Code,
Chapter 481, for which punishment is increased under:
(a) Health and Safety Code, §481.140, regarding the use of a
child in the commission of an offense; or
(b) Health and Safety Code, §481.134(c), (d), (e) or (f),
regarding an offense committed within a drug free zone, if it is shown
that the defendant has been previously convicted of an offense for which
punishment was increased under one of those subsections;
(8) sexual assault. (9) An offense, other than an offense
committed on or after September 1, 2009, for which the person is subject to register
as a sex offender under Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 62.

department review which may lead to denial, suspension, or revocation.

What vaccines are required? One
injection of Tetanus diphtheria toxoid (Td) or Tetanus diphtheria pertussis (Tdap) is required within the last 10 years, Measles, Mumps,
Rubella (MMR), One dose of
Varicella Zoster (Chickenpox)
if done before your first birthday or two doses if done after your first
birthday, A recent Tuberculosis Test (TB)
within 3 months of the start date of class, A series of 3 injections of
Hepatitis B (Hep-B) vaccine is required
to be completed prior to any patient contact (clinical time). Please
follow the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for administration of
this vaccine and its time frames. Your first injection of Hep-B will
need to be completed prior to enrollment.
3.What if I don't have my immunization records
or I am missing a required vaccine? You have two options. 1) Visit
your doctor or click
here for a vaccine clinic to schedule injections. The vaccine clinic is a
very inexpensive alternative for those who are uninsured or under-insured. 2)
Visit your doctor and request a TITERS TEST on the vaccines above. The
TITERS TEST will verify your immunity to these diseases.
Which Textbook will we be using?
EMT-B Students will be using Mosby's EMT Prehospital Care 4th Ed.
Intermediate will be using Paramedic Practice Today Volumes 1 and 2, by
Barbara Aehlert.
Will I need a current
Health Care Provider CPR Card? Yes. If you do
not have a current card, we will be holding CPR classes prior to EMT-B
start dates. Your HCP CPR card must be issued no more than 6
months prior to the start date of class and must come from either EMTS,
Austin Travis County EMS, Williamson County EMS or an Accredited Educational Facility.

What does the required
uniform consist of? The uniform consists of Navy EMS pants,
Black Belt, Black Boots, and an EMTS Academy Shirt and Academy
patch. You can use the above items if you already own them, however,
the EMTS Academy Shirt and patch will need to be purchased through Miller
Uniform. They have the order sheet for EMTS on file however you can
print the order form below.

How long is the class:
Approximately: EMT-B Accelerated Day Class: 7
Weeks; EMT-B Day Class: 3 months, 2 weeks; EMT-B Night Class:
4 months, 2 weeks, EMT-I Night Class through EMT-P: 1 year,
2months avg. classroom time. EMT-I/EMT-P add approx. 5 months
clinical time. (If taking EMT-I alone, the class runs 5 months.
Add 1 month clinical time.

Note: A student who already has an EMT-Intermediate certification must still complete all of the requirements for the Paramedic class. In addition, there is no exit point for those students wanting only an EMT-Intermediate certification.

this option is 10% of the tuition. This will be added to your first payment and is due at registration.
